Is it a violation of individual liberty to require people to be vaccinated or to wear masks in the current Covid (Delta variant) pandemic? What about governmental lockdowns?

  • Types of government mandates: federal, state, local.
  • Do individuals have a constitutional right not to get vaccinated?
  • Do individuals have a constitutional right not to wear masks?
  • Should there be medical exemptions to vaccination and mask requirements?
  • Should there be religious exemptions to vaccination and mask requirements?
  • What about public and private schools?
  • What about mandatory lockdowns? This was a big issue earlier in the pandemic.

  • Examples: vaccination or mask mandates for visiting business premises, employee vaccination and mask mandates, air travel passenger mandates, etc.
  • Are federal or state constitutions triggered by business vaccination or mask mandates?
  • Do state or local governments have a constitutional or legal right to prohibit such mandates?
  • What is the recourse for individuals who oppose business vaccination and mask mandates?

Discussion Groups are moderated forums with pre-selected topics. Anyone who wishes to participate in the civil discussions is welcome to do so. The groups nominally represent different geographical locations and will morph back into geographically located in-person discussions when we can do so, for now we meet using zoom. They are currently held every Thursday. The topic for each discussion is announced in advance, sometimes with recommended reading.
