This month's topic revolves around the ethical questions regarding aggressive and belligerent nations/states and how to deal with them. Obviously, the Ukraine situation is the current event driving this topic.
There are a number of questions such as: Does the world community have an obligation to help defend a sovereign nation being attacked by a an aggressive neighbor? If so, how far does that obligation go (outside of mutual defense treaties)? Would the assassination of a rogue leader be acceptable, even though it is forbidden by international law? Does the question of nuclear arms change the calculus of the situation?

Discussion Groups are moderated forums with pre-selected topics. Anyone who wishes to participate in the civil discussions is welcome to do so. The groups nominally represent different geographical locations and will morph back into geographically located in-person discussions when we can do so, for now we meet using zoom. They are currently held every Thursday. The topic for each discussion is announced in advance, sometimes with recommended reading.
