TopicBook Bans in Pine-Richland School District?

Host: David B

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Voters in the Pine-Richland School District came out in support of parents who challenged books available in the school libraries. Five seats were up for grabs on the school board. Four of the elected candidates support banning the books in question, including one incumbent, while the fifth person elected is against book bans. A current policy allows for challenges and committee will be formed to decide if those books will be banned.

GIBSONIA, Pa. (KDKA) — After complaints by some parents, the Pine-Richland School District said it would review some of its library books. But as for a new policy on what kids should and shouldn't read, that's on hold in the district. School board members decided on Monday to keep the current policy and let the next school board decide. Pine-Richland is currently recruiting members to be part of the book review committee required by the existing policy, which continues to be applied.

If book banners can win elections in the affluent, high academically achieving Pine-Richland district of progressive Allegheny County, PA, they will likely be coming to your district or districts nearby.

We will be discussing the background, current status, and prognosis for book banning in the Pine-Richland and the region.  We will also be discussing involvement to date of PFC members and our future actions.

Let's fight (and reverse) this religious-based book banning movement before it can do more damage.  Join in and participate!
