Discussion Group 2

This month, we will be discussing the ways technology influences our social and economic structures. How we can identify and increase the benefit of these changes? The evidence that technology and computing power is rapidly, and exponentially, advancing in the modern era is all around us. This progress has helped us to connect and build society in remarkable ways, but there are signs of stress within the systems we are creating. We owe it to ourselves to make sure these advancements are a benefit to as many lives as possible.

The new ride-sharing, crowd funded economy can be a refreshing new start for private business, or a new form of exploitation of the working class. Our energy sources can be powerful and self-sustaining, or volatile and destructive to the environment. Social media can be our best source of community and learning, or an algorithm designed to monetize our conversations.

Discussion Group 2 - Mt. Lebanon meets in a conference room at the Sunnyhill Unitarian Universalist Church. Please use the side door entrance on the right side of the building, NOT the main entrance.
